The 2013 Boardman River Clean Sweep will be led by members of the
Traverse Area Paddle Club.
The public is welcome to attend and work with us during this event. Please bring your own canoe or kayak.
All NON-TAPC participants must sign or, if a minor, have a parent or guardian sign the Release of Liability Waiver.
The main cleanup event is scheduled for June 8th, 2013. There will be a second downtown section
cleanup during the NCF on July 5th which may include members of the public.
All participants EXCEPT the downtown crew will meet at SCHECKS LANDING
9:00am on Saturday June 8nd.
The Downtown USCG crew will meet at the HULL PARK just behind the library at 9:30am.
The Downtown River crew will meet at 9:30am at Union St. and 6th St. just south of the Post Office.
Forks to Schecks will not be done this year because of a Trout Unlimited seminar that is being held there.
Jim Heffner will lead a group of paddlers from SCHECKS Landing to the Brown Bridge Dam Landing.
The Brown Bridge to Shumsky section has been divided into two sections in order to make it easier for
Jim Batsakis and Anne Reichert will lead the BB Dam to River Pitch section (second bridge on River Rd).
Lois and John will lead the River Pitch to Shumsky section.
The Shumsky to Beitner section will be manned by members of the GT Audubon Club and led by John Mesch.
The Beitner Rapids section will not be done this year.
The YMCA section is NOT being done this year. The GTCD keeps it immaculately clean.
Safety is our biggest concern every year, so everyone who paddles on the river will be required to use a PFD and asked to have
No bare feet or flip flops- PLEASE.
The BRCS, GLC, TAPC and the TC Audubon Club will graciously provide the food and services for the picnic. The Grand Traverse
Funding for T-shirts and for the picnic location is being provided by the Great Lakes Commission and the BRCS organization.
Trash bags are being provided by American Rivers - National River Cleanup, H. Cox and Son and the Nichols Company.
This year we will recycle as much trash as we can. American Waste has kindly donated one dumpster
Raffle prizes are all ready to go. Raffle tickets are still being sold at the Nature Center and online on this site.
The kayak and paddle for the Youth River Stewardship Award has been donated by H. Cox and Son.
We hope to have a larger and better BRCS this year.

The BRCS would appreciate any support or assistance you can offer. Buying a raffle ticket is a good way to easily do that.
That section has already been cleaned by a BRCS crew previously.
This is the section of new river that was re-formed when the dam was removed. Very exciting!

Conservation District will provide the picnic location at the Nature Center's Oleson Pavilion and other services to the BRCS.
