Boardman River Clean Sweep
BRCS 20th Year Anniversary
June 30, 2024

This reprot is to bring attention to the 20th Anniversary of the BRCS

2004 was the first year we tried this. It was by accident. Jocelyn Trepte and I decided to do a Spring cleanup on the
Downtown Section for the first time ever. No one paddled downtown but it was heavily trafficed by homeless
people and tourists.

There was a lot of trash and the river was in terrible condition. More than we could get out or carry.

We did the best we could and ran into some kids that helped us get some stuff off the shore.

At the end, we didn't realize that there is a ramp on the north side of the river which is clearly visiable in
the photos so climbed the bank instead. DUH!!!!

It was raining and we use a business dumpster (without permisssion) to toss the trash. Then headed to BK
for lunch. Some things never change.

Then we decided to paddle the Forks, too. On the way back from the shuttle, I realized we could clean the
whole river in one day with just 8 people and Jocelyn said we should try it next year and we did. It was a big success.

That's how the BRCS was born.
