Today the City led the biggest cleanup effort ever attempted in the Pines area of the Mens Trail at the Commons in Traverse City.
I put out the word to all my regular dumpsite volunteers on Nextdoor. We had 16 volunteers show up to work.
It was hard, nasty work with human waste all over the site.
Afterwards, 8 of us had a nice lunch at the Meijer's BK just up the road.
All our photos from today's project can be seen here:
Our work today was partially funded by grants from:
The Consumers Energy Foundation
National Cherry Festival Foundation
And private donors like you.
There were over 50 people there to work. Several came after this photo was taken.
We found a lot of trash here and there during the first hour but as we approached the south end of the trail, we discovered
a HUGE pile of garbage. It was bigger than anything we had seen before. It took us the rest of our time there to get it cleaned up.
