2021 Lower Commons May - City of Traverse City Trash Pick Up Report

After the City of Traverse City agreed to try one last measure that I dreamed up
last year, they were very happy with how it turned out and how cheap it was for
them to get so much trash out of the woods at the Commons.

The City provided a garbage truck once a week for 30 minutes and allowed
homeless residents of the Commons to bring out trash and to pay them 2.00 per
FULL bag delivered to the truck. The BRCS handles the money and the City does
the trash disposal.

This has worked very well in the past and now it is working on a sustainable basis.

We did 5 days of Homeless trash collection. In those 5 days, we removed 132 bags,
4 propane tanks (recycled) and 2 matresses. That is is a lot of trash.

We thank the City and The Community Quest Club of Traverse City for helping us with
this project.
