BRCS National Cherry Festival Downtown Traverse City Cleanup Report
It was great to get out on the river again with Fully Vaccinated people (except for one of the younger kids).
It was such a gorgeous day, that we completely forgot about all the restrictions and just enjoyed it as long
as we could. This cleanup that usually takes 2 hours took us 4 hours and I had to drag them kicking and
screaming off the river.
Consequetly, we found a lot of unusual trash and got a lot of great photos. Harold took the spare camera
and got some great shots, too.
Leni was concentrating on fishing related trash and showed us some moves in her NUCANOE that we have not seen
before. Stopping herself with her grabber by grabbing an overhead limb and then balancing in the canoe while
removing the overhead fishing line was a sight not seen before. Way to go, Leni!
At the end, Jake yelled out to me to come to his canoe at the boat ramp where we left the trash. I went over
then found this little furry hitch-hiker had been in his and Michelle's canoe for about an hour. It's good that they
didn't know he was there. Michelle is terrified of mice and he could have caused an accident. Jacqui made sure
that he escaped unharmed in an act of real kindness - and to some - BRAVERY.
We took more than 1/2 a 90 Gallon Trash Tote of trash out of the river today - Plus one mouse.
Our THANKS go out to the
National Cherry Festival
and the
Michigan Volunteer River, Stream and Creek Cleanup Program
for helping us fund and complete these Boardman River Cleanups.
