BRCS Downtown River Report

BRCS Downtown Traverse City River Cleanup
This year due to the COVID-19 Epidemic, small selected groups of paddlers have
been asked to do small projects to keep the Boardman River clean in this"Off Year'"
The Downtown section is the last of the 6 or 7 projects held during the Spring of 2020
that have made up this year's BRCS.
Paul T, John M, Mitch T. and Norm F. were the lone volunteers along with a big townie
bunny that welcomed us as we arrived at Hannah Park. Ken, a City worker, was
also there due to a call to 911 about three cars and 4 boats being launched there.
So, we let Ken take the group photo and we all laughed about how weird some people
are about their nieghborhood watchs.
Since this was the last of the BRCS events for 2020. I made the Strokes of Acheivment
Award to Paul Ton, who has been a loyal and very willing volunteer since 2013.
Paul's ever ready attitude is one I admire and one that I have taken advantage of.
Congratulations to Paul for this award.
After walking our 1/2 shuttle, we headed out and found a fair amount of trash and
fishing debris in the trees overhead. Mitch was very good at getting it out of the trees
and Paul got the most river trash. At the end, we had a rain squall come in and we got
pretty soaked walking back to the cars and loading the boats.
Except for the rain, it was a fun day on the river for three old guys and a younger paddler.
